The Socarrat

A selection of what inspired us recently
and occasional updates from the studio.

It’s September, which means back to work! We’re starting this issue lightly to battle the post-vacation blues you might be feeling. Twitter user @thegallowboob placed googly eyes on cut peppers, leading to hilarious scenes.

From doodle to art with AI

Hardware producer NVIDIA announced Canvas – an app that uses artificial intelligence to transform sketches into photorealistic scenes. It features several tools such as mountains, grass, clouds, and more that you can use to draw simple shapes and lines. With a bit of AI magic, it then renders impressive lifelike photos. The tool is available as a free beta, but only works if you have an NVIDIA RTX GPU.

A way for fans with vision impairment to enjoy sports

During the Australian Open earlier this year, the sound of Action Audio debuted. It allows for people who are blind or have low vision to follow along with sports matches. The technology takes the spatial data from the real-time ball monitoring on the court and turns this into 3D audio. When listening with Action Audio, you notice the speed and trajectory of the ball, proximity to the line, and more – all without seeing the ball. Be sure to try out the samples on their website with your headphones on.

LEGO adidas Originals Superstar

LEGO and Adidas took their collaboration further by releasing a new set together. The kit is based on an actual EU size 40 Adidas Originals Superstar. It even has real laces inside, but unfortunately you cannot wear the shoe. What’s maybe more interesting is that the brands collaborated with six artists to rebuild the iconic shoe. Each creator unleashed their signature style on the sneaker and rebuilt it with the LEGO set.
